7303 Level 3/4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector – (PTLLS)

The qualification provides an entry point and introduction for those new to teaching and training or those wishing to teach or train. It is the qualification for those seeking a ‘stepping stone’ to qualifications that entitle them to teach in the sector in either an ‘Associate Teacher’ or ‘Full Teacher’ role. It provides progression to the 7304 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), for those seeking Associate Teacher status, and the 7305 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), for those seeking ‘Full Teacher’ QTLS status.

 Course Content 

 This Level 3 Award comprises of 5 sections, detailed as follows:

  • Section 1: Understand own role responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching.
  • Section 2: Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
  • Section 3: Demonstrate session planning skills.
  • Section 4: Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners.
  • Section 5: Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Who is it for?

This course is for anyone wishing to teach or train adults and it leads to the nationally recognised City and Guilds 7303 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) certificate. 

 Prerequisites:-

  •  Students need to be over 21 years of age and it would be expected that they are fully qualified in the subject they wish to teach.
  • Students will need basic literacy and numeracy skills - in order to meet this requirement it will be expected students have a level of understanding and skills equivalent to Key Skills Level 2 / GCSE (Grade C or above). Students will be subject to an initial assessment procedure prior to enrolment to ensure this is the case and regardless of what qualifications they possess.
  • There is no teaching practice requirement for this course.

Mode of Assessment

Assessment is by two mandatory assignments, one assignment is concerned with theory and one with practice. Each assignment involves answering a series of questions that cover all five sections of the Award.

All assignment work is marked by the tutor on a pass/refer basis and is subject to moderation.

The award offers a progression route into other initial teacher training programmes that are concerned with the Lifelong Learning Sector such as:-

  • C&G 7304 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) - appropriate for those in an Associate Teacher Role
  • C&G 7305 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) - appropriate for those in a Full Teacher Role
